FAQ

Markup questions

Markup vs margin, formulas, and how this pairs with Orders App.

What is this markup calculator?

You enter the cost and the markup percent you want. It gives the selling price, the profit, and the margin that percent works out to.

What is cost price?

What you already paid to have the item: the product, the ingredients, or the wholesale unit. Markup is the extra you add on top of that cost.

What is markup?

Markup is profit as a share of cost: ((selling - cost) / cost) x 100. Buy at 80, sell at 100, markup is 25%.

How is markup different from margin?

Margin compares profit to selling price. Same 80 cost and 100 sell gives 20% margin and 25% markup. They are not the same percentage.

How do I get the selling price?

Selling = cost x (1 + markup/100). Cost 50 with 40% markup sells at 70.

What markup should I use?

It depends on category and competition. Many chat sellers start around 30-50% on goods and adjust after packing and shipping costs.

Is the tool free?

Yes. No signup. Orders App is separate if you later want DM orders captured into a list automatically.
